If you have a higher national diploma, foundation degree, or similar qualification, this course will top it up to an honours degree with just one year of additional study. You will build on your all-around knowledge of mechanical engineering, adding a strong emphasis on the design of equipment and mechanical systems. The course includes covers topics like how to design reliability into machines, how to predict structural fatigue and stress, and how to manage projects effectively. Youll also carry out a major project in a specific area of engineering design and technology. Theres plenty of support for you to develop the academic study skills that are required. Whatever your background, well help you take the more critical, deeper, and research-informed approach that is needed for an honours degree at a UK university. On graduation youll be equipped to take up managerial roles within the mechanical engineering sector, having benefited from all that Northumbria University and the city of Newcastle have to offer.
BTEC HND/Foundation degree, or equivalent in a related subject. If you have taken a BTEC HND program, we will usually expect you to have performed to an average of Merit standard. If you have taken a Foundation Degree, we will be looking for performance to Commendation level, or 60% average.
International applicants should have a minimum overall IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 with 5.5 in each component (or an approved equivalent*).
