You will learn about various interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological approaches to studying media and social issues. You will obtain the ability to apply these to contemporary issues and debates. We offer a diverse range of optional modules from both media and sociology, allowing you to tailor your degree to your interests.
Our supportive and stimulating learning environment will help you develop the ability to work independently and foster critical analysis, communication, research methods, group work, and employability skills.
We run employability and media production modules as part of our curriculum – e.g., 'The Production of News' and 'Online Journalism: Theory and Practice.
Our students are encouraged to get involved in the student-run media on campus, including Galaxy - our student magazine; LUST - our student TV station; and LUSH Radio - our student radio station.
We organize external speaker events, industry visit days, career development training, and other initiatives in collaboration with local and national media organizations, giving you valuable insights into the professional media world.
In addition, our departmental Careers Tutor can support and advise you on career matters throughout your time with us.
