Course Overview

Our BSc Midwifery course is aligned to the following six Domains from the Standards of proficiency for midwives : 

Being an accountable, autonomous, professional midwife  

Safe and effective midwifery care: promoting and providing continuity of care and carer  

Universal care for all women and newborn infants  

Additional care for women and newborn infants with complications  

Promoting excellence: the midwife as colleague, scholar, and leader  

The midwife as a skilled practitioner  

Our Programme Team are committed to supporting you to realize your potential to develop skills that make you confident, competent, and a responsive, autonomous, and accountable practitioner. You will develop and enhance the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that are required to deliver and lead high-quality evidence-based midwifery care across a range of healthcare environments.

This course is delivered by experienced registered midwives who have expertise in both teaching and research, and a variety of clinical specialties, including Newborn and Infant Physical Examination practitioners; Newborn Life Support trainers,s and PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) trainers. Our Lecturer in Practice Learning (LPL) will provide you with support during your practice placement, working alongside the Academic Link Lecturers. We work in partnership with our Trust partners and encourage guest speakers from our clinical experts to ensure that our course remains contemporary.

GCE A Level:

120 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent, including Biology, Human Biology, or Applied Science. Typical offer - BBC/BBB

BTEC:

BTEC National Extended/Diploma in Applied Science (NOT Forensic Science): DMM-DDM; other BTEC Extended/Diploma subjects will be considered (merit/distinction profile) but must be combined with A-level Biology, Human Biology, or Applied Science. Please note we do not accept Health and Social Care in place of Biology

Irish/Scottish Highers:

BBBB including Biology or Human Biology

International Baccalaureate:

28 points including 5 in HL Biology

Access requirements:

Access to HE Diploma, to include 45 credits at level 3, 30 of which must be at Merit or above, and 15 Level 3 Biology credits at Distinction

OCR:

OCR National Extended/Diploma: Merit/distinction profile plus GCE A-level Biology, Human Biology, or Applied Science

Extra Information / General Entry Requirements:

Please note that we accept a maximum of 8 UCAS points from GCE AS Levels and that the Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and A Level General Studies will be recognized in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs. FETAC Level 5 (Major Award) with Biology or Human Biology at Distinction and the remaining subjects at Merit. Applicants must also have GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths. We do not accept level 2 Key Skills/Functional Skills as equivalent to GCSE. Please note that applicant must also have evidence of recent study within the last 5 years.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
