Course Overview

This course is for future professionals who can positively address the challenges that health and social care presents.

During the study, students will be taught by friendly, knowledgeable, qualified, professional lecturers, who have been employed in either health or social care and are well-equipped to help relate the study topics to current policy and practice in the domain. This offers the opportunity to develop core transferable skills and knowledge relevant to health care, social care, and public health.

Your learning will help you to develop the knowledge relevant to a productive future in the health and social care sectors.

You will develop core skills that are relevant to all Health and Social Care areas, such as record keeping, academic writing, and reflective thinking, understanding of how health and wellness may be measured, learning the use of common measurements of data, and how you can affect the communication of others. To support your development and work-readiness, employability skills such as professionalism, effective communication, and evaluation of evidence are embedded throughout the Foundation Year with the opportunity to undertake relevant work experience in a Health and Social Care setting.

The students for this course need to undertake work experience of 70 hours at a minimum from Year 0 onwards. They can undertake their work experience ideally in a health and social care setting which they will ideally find themselves if they can, or we will support them if they need to. If the student is already working in a health and social care setting (e.g. Healthcare Assistant etc), then this can count as their work experience and they do not need to look for an additional placement.

General Eligibility

Successful applicants will typically have 96 UCAS points, made up of Level 3 equivalent qualifications, including A Level and BTEC courses. Additionally, we welcome applications from people with a variety of qualifications, skills, and experience. Each application will be assessed on their merits.
