Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an increasingly popular method of psychological therapy used to treat mental and physical health problems. This course is designed for mental health professionals, including nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, counsellors, doctors and social workers, to extend their CBT theory and practice knowledge. This course will enable you to provide CBT to clients with common or more serious mental health problems.
In 2022 we are offering one pathway within the Serious Mental Health Problem programme.
Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder (part-time 120 credits at level 7)
Postgraduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder (top up) (route for students taking 60 academic credits at level 7).
Information about psychological intervention competence frameworks and identified severe mental illness conditions treated in secondary care services can be found on the UCL website.
Those enrolling on the course should be members of the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) or other professional body or satisfy the BABCP KSA requirements. All candidates who apply to the course from September 2018 onwards will be expected to enrol as members of the BABCP and so endorse the organisation's ethical and professional codes of practice. This is a new requirement to enable the course to comply with new BABCP course accreditation guidelines.
The study is at academic level 7, so students will usually be expected to have a 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent academic study in a discipline connected to mental health and other vocational mental health experience. Applicants with a 2:2 honours degree or those without an honours degree will be considered individuals. The applications of students without core professional training in mental health will be evaluated using the BABCP Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (KSA) Framework.
20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
