Course Overview

At Hull, we teach you much more than just the theory of forensic science. Here we’ll take you from the crime scene to the courtroom going beyond the lecture theatre to gain practical experience in crime scene investigation, analyze evidence in the laboratory, and learn how to be an expert witness in court.

Forensic science is one of the fastest-growing sectors and this course prepares you for a range of careers.

You'll gain the essential knowledge and fundamental skills to become a competent and confident forensic scientist with a significant focus on practice to application. We'll support you to develop critical thinking skills and teach you how to present supported/evidenced opinions as you progress through the course. You'll also be able to make use of our excellent links with local police forces.

General Eligibility

Points can be from any qualification on the UCAS tariff, but must include at least 80 points from

  • A levels

  • BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma

  • OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma, Diploma or Extended Diploma

  • CACHE Diploma or Extended Diploma

  • Irish Leaving Certificate

  • Scottish Highers

  • Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Diploma

  • or a combination of appropriate Level 3 qualifications

  • Applicants should have A level Biology, Chemistry, or Applied Science at Grade C or above (or merit from relevant BTEC). Applicants taking the reformed A-level must also Pass the practical element.

Alternative qualifications

  • IB Diploma: 28 points including 5 in HL Biology or Chemistry

  • Pass Access to HE Diploma overall with a minimum of 112 UCAS tariff points including a minimum of 18 credits at Merit in Biology or Chemistry

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • IELTS 6.0 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each skill.
