Post Graduate Diploma in High-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Training

This 120-credit Post Graduate Diploma will be completed over one academic year and consists of three modules. These are The Fundamentals of CBT, CBT for Depression and CBT for Anxiety. The course is designed to support trainees in developing their levels of CBT competency and to be able to work with clients who experience common mental health problems. The training will enable students to deliver CBT treatments at Step 3 of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) Stepped care approach.

This course runs annually and starts in March. The system will begin with a two-week intensive teaching block, and teaching days with the university will be Wednesday and Thursday after that. It is anticipated that this course will be delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams. Teaching will take place on Wednesday full day and Thursday half day, with supervision groups on Thursday afternoon.

The recruitment for this course is completed in partnership with IAPT services. The application process will be managed by the IAPT service, which will advertise a Hight Intensity Trainee position. The university will then co-facilitate interviews with the employing service. Applicants should have a related healthcare degree with a minimum 2:2 award. Applicants should also either have a core healthcare profession or be able to demonstrate the successful completion of a Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (KSA) Portfolio. General Eligibility

Those enrolling on the course should be members of the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) or other professional bodies or satisfy the BABCP KSA requirements. All candidates who apply to the course from September 2018 onwards will be expected to enrol as members of the BABCP and so endorse the organisation's ethical and professional codes of practice. This is a new requirement to enable the course to comply with new BABCP course accreditation guidelines. 

The study is at academic level 7, so students are usually expected to have a 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent academic study in a discipline connected to mental health and other vocational mental health experience. Applicants with a 2:2 honours degree or those without an honours degree will be considered individuals. The applications of students without core professional training in mental health will be evaluated using the BABCP Knowledge Skills and Attitudes (KSA) Framework. 

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
