Course Overview

Explore the art of dance with inquiry, rigor, and risk. At UMass Amherst, the dance program integrates the physicality of dance with creative and theoretical scholarship. Students study ballet, modern dance, jazz, and contemporary techniques, as well as courses in dance theory. Offering through the Five College Dance Consortium, students have a wealth of opportunities to develop their abilities as a performer and a scholar of dance. By graduation, students of the BFA program are prepared for careers in performance and choreography, while BA students are prepared to step into graduate study and careers in dance education, therapy, criticism, or journalism.
