The world moves by water. The vast majority of trade utilizes the oceans as a set of highways, and ports around the world continue to expand, both in size and in revenue. The Marine Transportation (MART) degree utilizes expert faculty and industry experts to deliver a top quality classroom education in all things pertaining to maritime transportation. Also, a heavy exposure to hands-on training helps to forge graduates that are ready to step seamlessly into this exciting industry.
This program combines studies in the humanities and sciences with instruction and training in maritime disciplines to provide students with a broad-based education. Students are also provided with solid fundamentals in business topics related to the maritime industry, ashore and afloat. Students who enroll in and apply to graduate in Marine Transportation must 1) be enrolled in the Corps of Midshipmen and 2) successfully complete the license examination for Third Mate in order to graduate from Texas A&M University.
The student who successfully completes the license program will be qualified to sit for the U.S. Coast Guard license examination as a Third Mate of any gross tonnage upon oceans, steam, or motor vessels and issuance of Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) credentials.
Undergraduate students who meet the following general admission requirements at the time of application are assured admission to A&M-Central Texas:
Minimum 2.0 cumulative transfer GPA on a 4.0 scale;
Minimum 30 academic, college-level transferable semester hours. Applicants pursuing an Applied Science or Aviation Science degree may meet this requirement utilizing select workforce education credit from an approved Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree upon completion of 45 hours, to include all general education courses within the AAS.

The University requires all students to take at least one year of a foreign language. This requirement is completed by having taken two units of the same foreign language in high school, completing one year of the same foreign language in college or completing the credit-by-examination process.
Minimum TOEFL Essentials score of 8.5, or. Minimum IELTS Academic test score of 6.0 overall band (Texas A&M University does not accept the IELTS General test)
