Course Overview

We are fortunate to have a number of highly successful published writers of fiction and poetry in the Department, who can share their insights with you. The Department’s commitment to contemporary literature, and its contacts with eminent authors, allow us to place your degree studies in Creative Writing in an exciting wider context. We will also give you guidance on how you can get your work published so that you can share your success with others. At Chester, we pride ourselves on teaching Creative Writing in a professional but supportive environment.

Creative Writing graduates typically follow careers in such areas as journalism, editing, teaching, copywriting, marketing, arts administration, librarianship, broadcasting, and public relations. Many follow up their degree with post-graduate study. Creative Writing teaches many transferable skills, such as communication, persuasion, presentation, listening, working independently, and time management.

GCE A Level:

112 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent. Typical Offer - BCC/BBC

The Department requires one of the following subjects at GCE A Level: English Language, English Literature, English Combined (Language and Literature), or Creative Writing

BTEC:

BTEC Extended Diploma/Diploma: merit/distinction profile plus one of the GCE A Level subjects listed above

Irish/Scottish Highers:

Irish Highers - H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 including H3 in English

Scottish Highers - BBBB including English

International Baccalaureate:

26 points, including 5 in HL English

Access requirements:

Access to HE Diploma, to include 45 credits at level 3, 30 of which must be at Merit (including 15 in English Language or English Literature)

OCR:

OCR National Extended/Diploma: Distinction/Merit profile plus one of the GCE A level subjects listed above

Extra Information / General Entry Requirements:

Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and Level General Studies will be recognized in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
