Course Overview

History graduates from Chester have pursued a wide range of careers reflecting the excellent transferable skills offered by a History degree, including - amongst many others - careers in teaching, law, the civil service, publishing, business, IT, and research. History continues to be one of the most attractive degrees to employers and we work closely with our students and the Careers Service to help students develop a range of transferable skills.

You’ll have the opportunity to work as a professional historian and produce material for public consumption. During the second year of the degree, our students have worked directly with history and heritage organizations – ranging from BBC History Magazine to the National Trust – to produce walking tours, historic pamphlets, websites and apps, public exhibitions, and employability prospects.

112 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent. Typical offer - BBC/BCC. The department requires one of the following subjects:

Ancient History, Classical Civilisation, History, Politics, Sociology

BTEC:

BTEC Extended Diploma/Diploma: merit profile plus one of the GCE A Level subjects listed above

Irish/Scottish Highers:

Irish Highers - H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 including H3 in History

Scottish Highers - BBBB including History

International Baccalaureate:

26 points, including 5 in HL History

Access requirements:

Access to HE Diploma, to include 45 credits at level 3, 30 of which must be at Merit (including 15 in History).

OCR National Extended/Diploma: Merit profile plus one of the GCE subjects listed above

Extra Information / General Entry Requirements:

Please note that we accept a maximum of 8 UCAS points from GCE AS Levels and that the Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and A Level General Studies will be recognized in our offer. We will consider a combination of A levels and BTECs/OCRs.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
