Course Overview

A Master's by Research (MA) allows you to undertake a one-year (full-time) research degree. You will have one-to-one supervision by a specialist in the history of childhood and weekly Graduate History Seminars designed to enhance your research skills. Such programs are attractive to those studying for personal interest, professional development, or as preparation for a Ph.D. What were childrens lives like in the past? Here in the History Department at the University of Huddersfield, we are working with the curator of the childrens collections at Abbey House Museum to discover the experience of children in war and peace, at home and school, and in sickness and health. Together, we run a Masters by Research in the History of Childhood in order to go behind the scenes of the museum for privileged access to their collections and take part in bespoke study days. Join us to find out more about what childhood artifacts can tell us about childrens lives in the past and how to discover the traces of childrens lives in the archives. This course is ideal for those studying for personal interest, professional development, or as preparation for a Ph.D. and is led by specialists in the history of childhood in France and Britain.

General Eligibility

The normal entry requirements for enrolment on a MA by Research is an Honours degree (2:1 or above) or equivalent, in a discipline appropriate to that of the proposed programme to be followed.

Part Time Work Details

20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.
