Make Huddersfield your choice for studying Chemistry BSc(Hons), and you'll join a department with a long and illustrious history. Our teaching and research in Chemistry date back to the 1840s, when we were a centre for colour chemistry, supporting the textile and dyeing industries in the area. Accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, our modern chemistry courses carry that vibrant and distinguished tradition. We cover the core areas of organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry and allow you to explore more specialist options during your studies. You could find yourself delving into medicinal chemistry or getting to grips with chemical engineering or forensic science, helping you tailor your degree to the job you'd like to do after graduation. Whichever options you choose, you'll be able to get a grounding in the fundamentals of chemistry while developing your logical reasoning and imaginative problem-solving skills. In our chemical sciences labs, youll have the opportunity to learn using the kind of instruments used in industry. And with an optional work placement in the UK or abroad in Year 3, youll find everything to help you gear your study towards boosting your employability.

General Eligibility

Entry requirements

BBC-BCCat A Level, including a grade C in Chemistry. The endorsement for practical work is an essential part of Science A Level study and is a requirement for entry to our degree course.

112-104UCAS tariff points from a combination of Level 3 qualifications, including a grade C in Chemistry at A Level.

Meritat T Level in Science

DMMin BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science.

Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit or above, including 21 credits in Chemistry.

112-104 UCAS tariff points from International Baccalaureate qualifications, including Higher Level Chemistry at grade 5.

Part Time Work Details

20 Hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall, with no element lower than 5.5 or equivalent.
