The Higher National Certificate in General Engineering is offered as a full-time, one-year, or two-year part-time day-release program. The part-time course is structured to enable students to fit coursework around their work commitments. The units studied have been selected in association with local employers in a variety of industries, aiming to satisfy their future needs. The qualification aims to develop knowledge and skills in engineering that will allow graduates to make positive contributions to employers as fast as possible and so progress in a career. On completion of the course, students can progress onto the Higher National Diploma (HND) in General Engineering. The assessment uses a variety of methods, including reports, assignments, and presentations, where practical these are electronically submitted. The Department has access to Solidworks and Autocad software, hydraulic and pneumatic simulation is carried out using Automation Studio, the electronic simulation uses Multisim, in a 20 seat technical suite. The Faculty has a dedicated electronics laboratory, a machine shop, and prototyping CNC machine tools. There may be additional costs for projects.
