Course Overview

In this course, you can study anything from introductory film studies to Film Noir, Shakespeare to science fiction, Victorian novels to Hollywood films, or Romantic poetry to art cinema. For the English modules, we start by covering topics such as how to analyze a poem and how to read a novel as a literary critic, moving on to historical surveys of the literature. We then explore in more detail many of the periods, movements, and topics previously covered. For the film modules, we start with a study of film from its origins, exploring key film techniques and genres, before moving on to study classic Hollywood film, international cinemas, and Film Noir. We then expand on this foundational knowledge to look at topics including: art cinema film theory the intersections between film and theatre, and film and literature
