Our course is taught by a dedicated and experienced team of tutors with expertise in a wide range of areas, including Romantic poetry; the Sensation novel; detective fiction; the Gothic; and 19th-century Irish, American, and South African literature. Our research publications include work on Shelley, Coleridge, the Brontës, Dickens, Collins, and Eliot, travel literature, women and material culture, the Victorian periodical press, literature of the Great Famine, colonialism, Neo-Victorian literature, and representations of the body.
Many previous graduates have gone on to further study, or into careers such as teaching in schools or in Higher Education. The skills you will acquire during the program, in particular enhancing communication, analytical, and research skills, are eminently transferrable and attractive to employers.

We provide access to part-time jobs, and extra-curricular employability-enhancing workshops and offer practical one-to-one help with career planning, including help with CVs, applications, and mock interviews. We also deliver group sessions on career planning within each course and we have a wide range of extensive information covering graduate jobs and postgraduate study.
Students and graduates of the University of Chester can use our services free of charge for up to two years after graduating.
Applicants normally require a minimum of a 2:2 honors degree in English Literature or a cognate discipline. Applicants are subject to written applications and references. Applicants may also be asked to provide evidence of written work and may be invited for an interview.
