Course Overview

The programme will provide you with a range of teaching and learning experiences to build on your existing skills and motivation so that you can contribute to a changing society, particularly within the field of civil engineering.

With a focus on personal, as well as professional development, our programme will engage you in rethinking Civil Engineering so that you can develop into an effective agent of change. The design and management processes of civil engineering will be at the centre of what we believe, teach and research. As you progress throughout the programme, you will become a competent and confident individual that can develop your personal and professional skills throughout the construction sector. In future careers, to also be influential in developing practice, provision, and policy, being resilient and self-assured is key here. Experienced tutors on the programme come from a wide range of professional backgrounds and are understanding the demands of study, work, and family life.

Being knowledgeable of the developmental, well-being and learning the needs of the client will be a common theme on the programme, you will develop an understanding of the skills and knowledge necessary to enable you to meet those needs and discover how you can respond in creative, reflective, and analytical ways to issues relating to civil engineering. Being mindful of the need to adopt a resourceful and reflective approach. As well as learning about management, practice, and provision within the field of civil engineering at home we want our graduates to be outward looking with an awareness of global issues that relate to the field of civil engineering such as global warming, energy efficiency, zero carbon and sustainable issues.

You will become more confident to meet the challenges of a changing society especially within technological advances, competent as researchers in gathering data, and analysing it to evaluate and plan for change. Our graduates are our leaders in civil engineering who can, as professionals, demonstrate a real commitment to the ever changing environment, managing change and leading others effectively to make a positive impact on civil engineering sector.

On achievement of a degree in civil engineering you will be able to progress onto postgraduate or masters level study. Any further study depends on your degree classification to establish your point of entry. De Montfort University offer a range of postgraduate programmes including an MSc in Energy & Sustainable Building Design, MSc Project Management, MSc Risk Management, etc. There will be opportunities to discuss progression from your programme with the University's Link Tutor.

General Eligibility

  • Learners must be aged 18 years on or before 31st August of the academic year that the programme commences.

  • A minimum of 96 UCAS points.

  • GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above, equivalent Level 2 qualification or be able to demonstrate equivalent skills.

  • IELTS 5.5; Reading and writing must be at 5.5

  • Examples of relevant Level 3 qualifications include: 2 x GCE 'A' Level passes 1 x GCE 'A' Level pass plus AS level passes in appropriate subjects BTEC National Diploma or Extended Diploma BTEC National Certificate, a Level 3 Diploma or equivalent such as NVQ, in related subject

  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution

  • Related work experience

  • An international equivalent of the above.

Part Time Work Details

20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.
