Course Overview

The course will develop your understanding of the roles of research, design, analysis, and optimization in advanced engineering careers. You will gain the knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology and gain the appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, and maintain engineering products, processes, systems, and services.

Specialist modules will allow you to pursue areas of particular interest to you and may include: a study of advanced mechanical engineering topics such as fluid flow, aerodynamics, tensor stress, and parametric analysis; the study of advanced mechanical engineering systems such as intermittent combustion or continuous combustion engines, and hypersonic propulsion; study of finite element modeling theory and application of mechanical engineering software analysis packages such as MATLAB or ANSYS; study of advanced applications of mathematical solutions for engineering problems such as transfer function approaches, state space methodology, and stability analyses; application of optimization approaches to the design of mechanical engineering systems; and a mechanical engineering design project.

This program has been accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) as meeting the UK Engineering Council requirements for the Further Learning portion of Chartered Engineer (CEng) professional registration.  To meet the educational requirements in full for Chartered Engineer registration, graduates will also need to present an accredited level 6 qualification or equivalent and meet specific membership and professional achievement criteria specific to the professional body through which application for professional registration is made.
