Course Overview

Physical Geography studies the patterns and processes occurring within our natural environment, from the atmosphere to the biosphere. Our Physical Geography degree explores the processes that shape our planet and how they impact the human environment. With a strong emphasis on fieldwork, you will have every opportunity to immerse yourselves in a range of different physical environments within the UK and overseas. The first year provides a foundation for a diverse range of specialist options in physical geography available to you in your second and third years of study. In year three, you will complete a dissertation that brings together the subject knowledge, skills, and techniques you have learned in the degree to produce an independent and original piece of academic research on a topic of your choice. You will also enjoy exciting fieldwork opportunities, comprising both local day excursions and longer, residential fieldwork in the UK and overseas. Examples of current residential field course venues include the Lake District, Scotland, Switzerland, and California. There is also an opportunity to spend a Semester in Year 2 studying at a partner university in Europe, Canada, the USA, Australia, or New Zealand.
