Cultivate a razor-sharp awareness of the ins and outs of journalism in a program taught by Pulitzer Prize and Freedom Forum Journalism Teacher of the Year award winners. The journalism program at UMass Amherst emphasizes both the theory and practice of journalism. By graduation, students have a thorough understanding of the ethics and traditions of the field, along with the nuts and bolts of the practice of journalism in today’s fast-paced environment. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in journalism, although the curriculum is widely applicable to any career where written and editorial skills are an advantage. Alumni of the program have gone on to work at the New York Times, Boston Globe, National Public Radio, Dateline NBC, the Associated Press, and other media outlets around the world.
