Course Overview

Develop the skillset you will need to work with and support children and young people who are experiencing mental health-related issues. You will gain a critical and in-depth understanding of mental health and its relationship to children, young people, and families within a changing and fluid society. You will learn via lectures and seminars, and workshops will develop your peer-learning networks. Your modules will explore medical and psychological models of practice and will look at a child and adolescent mental health from the position of social intervention. You will learn to draw on key interventions such as social pedagogy, relationship-based practice, playwork, and community work as methodologies. Using the social model of mental health and children and family practice, you will contribute and co-produce knowledge in a collaborative, practical, and participatory learning environment.

General Eligibility

Applicants should either have at least a second class honors degree in a relevant professional subject area of Youth Work, Nursing, Social Work, or Education, at least a second class honors degree in the cognate academic subjects of Health and Social Care or Social Sciences or have equivalent health and social care practitioner experience or relevant professional vocational training.
