Course Overview

You'll learn about all aspects of sports journalism, from the challenge of filing a match report within seconds of the final whistle to producing sports for television.

Think of London as being your classroom. You'll develop your skills by attending sports events in the capital and tracking down interviewees. Our students have covered the Europa League final in Dublin and interviewed sports stars past and present, such as Ray Wilkins, Andre Villas-Boas and Alastair Cook.

You'll be expected to attend matches and other sports events regularly, as well as going to press conferences. It's proper journalism, not taking in information second-hand through the internet and TV.

The course also aims to put sport and journalism in a broader context, looking at how they are linked to politics, national identity, commerce, film, and music.

We're also the only university to offer you the chance to study for the Professional Certificate in Journalism. That means you can earn a crucial professional qualification for your degree.

We consistently review our courses to ensure we are current with industry changes and requirements from our graduates. As a result, our modules are subject to change.

General Eligibility

Accepted Qualifications

112 UCAS points from an equivalent Level 3 qualification listed on the

UCAS tariff calculator, including:

  • A Levels in at least two subjects

  • BTEC Extended Diploma – DMM

  • BTEC Diploma – D*D*

  • Access to HE Diploma

  • T Levels

  • International Baccalaureate – 24 points including a minimum of 15 points at a Higher Level

  • We also welcome applications from students taking Level 3 or higher qualifications not on the UCAS tariff calculator and will assess the suitability on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to one of the above, you should have the following:

  • GCSE English Grade 4/C or Level 2 Functional Skills in English

International Qualifications

  • We accept many European and international qualifications besides the International Baccalaureate and BTEC qualifications besides A-levels.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking (or recognised equivalent).
