Course Overview

Being a social worker is a demanding but incredibly rewarding career. On the BSc (Hons) Social Work degree at Northumbria you will have direct involvement in enhancing peoples lives. 85% of students said that this course has provided them with opportunities to bring information and ideas together from different topics (NSS, 2019). Our BSc (Hons) Social Work course will allow you to develop your learning and personal attributes to secure a successful career within the field of social work. The course is delivered through a range of learning methods including lectures, seminars, and tutorials, as well as 170 days of assessed placements in the final two years of study. At Northumbria, you will be taught by leading academics who have extensive practical experience in a wide range of social work contexts. Furthermore, successful completion of the course will enable you to apply for registration with Social Work England - a legal requirement for all practicing social workers in England. Many of our graduates from this course go on to work as social workers, dealing with children in need, caring for users with substance or alcohol misuse, people who are homeless, or those suffering from mental health problems. Graduates have successful careers in organizations such as local authorities or voluntary sectors, like the NSPCC, as well as going on to further education.

General Eligibility

120 UCAS Tariff points From a combination of acceptable Level 3 qualifications which may include: A level, BTEC Diplomas/Extended Diplomas, Scottish and Irish Highers, Access to HE Diplomas, or the International Baccalaureate GCSE Requirements: Applicants will need Maths and English Language at minimum grade 4 or C, or the equivalent.
