Course Overview

This course is new for the entry year 2023

Today’s media practitioners need a diverse skill set and future-savvy strategic thinking to deliver impactful content. An exciting and market-driven fusion of advertising, journalism and screen production, this Media Production degree will help you to become a multi-skilled content creator. 

This course balances production and editing skills with strategy and planning. You’ll amass essential content creation expertise in copywriting, sound, photography, interactive media, documentary video and screenwriting. You’ll also gain the strategic know-how to boost engagement and performance in a competitive marketplace.

You will:

  • Develop in-demand making, editing and curating skills vital to the media and creative industries

  • Learn to pitch, plan and deliver content as professionally
    you respond to project briefs individually and in collaboration with your peers

  • Have the opportunity to work alongside industry partners on exciting briefs or secure your work placement

  • Have access to professional-standard facilities across the School of Communication and the School of Film & Television, including specialist film and editing facilities, photography and video studios, post-production labs, newsrooms and advertising studios

  • Grow your understanding of audiences, market traction and the broader cultural, social and political implications of the global media industries

General Eligibility

We consider all applications on their merit and potential. We invite all applicants to an interview day or audition to allow them to demonstrate this, along with what inspires and motivates them in their field. Applicants can also show their portfolio or give a performance, depending on the course. We welcome applications from all subject backgrounds, whether you’ve specialised in STEM, the arts or the humanities.

BA/BSc(Hons) three-year degree 104 – 120 UCAS Tariff points

BA/BSc(Hons) four year degree

with placement year 104 – 120 UCAS Tariff points

BA/BSc(Hons) four year degree

with Integrated Foundation Year 80 – 120 UCAS Tariff points

UCAS Tariff points will primarily be from Level 3 qualifications such as but not limited to A-levels, T Levels, a BTEC/UAL Extended Diploma or a Foundation Diploma.

Part Time Work Details

Twenty hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • For applicants whose first language is English, we require you to have or be working towards GCSE English Language Grade 4 (C) or equivalent. 

    If English is not your first language, you must meet the same standard, equivalent to the IELTS Academic 6.0 overall score, with at least 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. In addition, we accepted a range of in-country equivalencies and approved tests.
