Course Overview

This professionally-oriented BA Media and Communications is designed to provide you with the creative and critical thinking, executive skills, and business awareness to succeed in the creative industries. You will learn about the key media functions that define consumer culture, including marketing, branding PR, advertising, data, and audience engagement. This degree will provide you with a deep insight into a rapidly-evolving industry, and give you broad-based skills ranging from media production to data analytics. Working with practitioners and experts, you will develop practical skills in digital media production, project management, and creative skills in diverse formats including radio and podcasting, photography, and feature-writing. You will develop the ability to devise and target messages for a wide range of audiences, and understand storytelling and media language. You will have the opportunity to conduct research on key topics relating to media communications and will be encouraged to reflect on your own role as a consumer and creator of media content.

General Eligibility

Entry tariff:

  • Year 1 entry: 112 UCAS points (or equivalent)

  • Degree with Foundation Year

  • Foundation Year entry: 48 UCAS points (or equivalent)

  • We welcome applications from students studying T Levels.

  • When we consider applications to study with us, we form a complete view of your achievements to date, and future potential, and can offer flexibility in entry requirements.

  • passes in two distinct subjects at GCE Advanced Level; or

  • a pass in one subject at GCE Advanced Level plus (a) passes in two distinct subjects at GCE Advanced Subsidiary Level, or (b) a Vocational A-Level Single Award, or (c) two Vocational A-Level part Awards;

  • a Vocational A-Level Double Award; or

  • a Vocational A-Level Single Award plus (a) two Vocational A-Level part Awards, or (b) passes in two distinct subjects at GCE Advanced Subsidiary Level; or

  • a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma; or

  • a completed T-Level award; or

  • a Scottish Certificate of Education with (a) passes in five subjects, including at least three at a Higher grade, or (b) passes in four subjects all at a Higher grade or New Higher grade; or

  • the full Diploma of the International Baccalaureate; or

  • an Irish Leaving Certificate with passes in four subjects at Grade C at the Higher level.

Part Time Work Details

20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum 5.5 in each component
