Course Overview

Clinical Scientists are essential members of the modern healthcare team, and in collaboration with doctors and other medical professionals, aid in the diagnosis of disease, evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, and research into causes and cures of diseases. During this course, you will gain an understanding of human health and the causes, prevention, and treatment of disease. You will develop fundamental scientific and experimental skills, preparing you for a career as a practical scientist in biomedical research and practice. The curriculum is focused on a broad range of topics, including human genetics and genomics, physiology, cancer biology, pathology, anatomy, immunology, molecular and cellular biology, and biochemistry.

This course is for you if you:

have an interest in how we diagnose disease

wish to study the genetic and cellular basis for disease

want to understand how we can treat disease

want to understand the principles of drug design.

During this course, you will study the effect of environment and genes on our health in the birthplace of Charles Darwin and be a part of the exciting developments in the future of healthcare.

As a life-sciences graduate, you may be sought after by life science and pharmaceutical companies and the NHS.

General Eligibility

GCE A Level:

A minimum of 112 UCAS points from GCE A Levels or equivalent including one of the following subjects at GCE A Level Biology, Chemistry, Science

BTEC:

BTEC Extended Diploma/BTEC Diploma (Applied Science) – DMM/D*D*

T Level:

T Level (Science) with a Merit grade

Irish/Scottish Highers:

Irish Highers - H3, H3, H3, H3, H4 including H3 in Biology or Chemistry

Scottish Highers - BBBB including Biology or Chemistry

International Baccalaureate:

26 points, including 5 or above in HL Chemistry or HL Biology

Access requirements:

Access to HE (Science) Diploma, to include 45 credits at Level 3, 30 of which must be at Merit

OCR:

OCR National Extended/Diploma: merit profile plus one of the GCE A-level subjects listed above

Extra Information / General Entry Requirements:

A Level General Studies accepted; Welsh Baccalaureate accepted alongside A Levels/BTEC/OCRs

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.
