Course Overview

During the Master of Architecture at Cardiff Met, there will be opportunities to make contacts with architectural and building professionals through industry talks, events and mentoring. There may also be opportunities to undertake live briefs, in collaboration with the community and with the industry.

Upon completion of the course, enhanced design and graphic skills, along with a greater understanding of the construction industry, will provide graduates with a good platform from which to gain employment.

Graduates from the programme are well-placed to pursue further study and training towards qualifying as architects or to be employed as architectural assistants in the wider creative industries.

Some graduates elect to take their studies further by enrolling on a part-time postgraduate diploma recognised as Part 3 by the Architects Registration Board (ARB), typically while also working in an architectural firm.

This will allow them to complete their architectural training and become a registered architect in the UK. However, many graduates will elect to gain experience within a practice, before commencing their Part-3 studies, as they explore the many, varied opportunities within a career in architecture and the construction industry.

A further possible route is for graduates to take a PhD or a Professional Doctorate in the built environment, design or art, like the ones offered at Cardiff School of Art and Design.

Finally, some graduates become teachers by taking a relevant qualification.

General Eligibility

You will normally have achieved a first-class or second-class upper division degree (1st or 2:1 degree classification) in architecture, recognised as Part 1 by the Architects Registration Board (ARB), or equivalent if you have completed your undergraduate studies outside the UK.

Part Time Work Details

20 Hours of Work permit weekly for international students.
