Course Overview

This degree program combines subjects across film, media, and journalism, including audio and visual production, print journalism; digital media; film theory, and cultural studies. You will develop skills and techniques to produce media material as well as essential key skills for many of the creative industries. This course will equip you with a solid grounding in the theoretical, technical, and practical skills required to make you a sought-after professional in these fields. Modules are assessed by coursework, presentations, and essays and also offer the opportunity to submit practical work.

Our Creative Studies degree will equip you with the skills you need to forge a career in media, film, and journalism. This exciting degree course is aimed at students who want to make a profession of their passion by attaining a theoretical grounding and historical understanding of how the news, film, and media industry work, as well as being equipped with a broad range of production skills within different areas of the media, including documentary filmmaking, screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, and journalism practice.

As well as keeping you up-to-date with the fast-changing world of multimedia practice, it will introduce you to a broad range of theoretical perspectives that will enrich your research. The aim will be to give you the confidence and self-reliance to excel and adapt to an exciting field that is always on the move.

Journalism and Media staff in the School are leading experts in their fields with a range of research interests including digital journalism, broadcast journalism, politics, advertising, media regulation, privacy, communication, risk communication, professional writing, comics, visual culture, gaming, virtual worlds, global media, social networks, documentary, and media representation. Many members of staff in the School are practicing professionals and consultants.

Nestled in a breathtaking location between the Snowdonia Mountains and the sea, Bangor is also the perfect place to get out and about and find news stories or create your own media productions. The Media department is situated at the heart of the University campus, offering a close-knit and friendly community alongside the bustle of cafes, shops, and city life.

Bangor is also the site for a range of Creative Industries conferences, video conferences, and events. It is a regular site for visiting creative writers, filmmakers, journalists, designers, dramatists, new media makers, and more.

We accept students with a wide range of qualifications and backgrounds and consider each application individually.

All students need to have good basic skills and the University also values IT and communication skills.

As part of the University’s policy, we consider applications from prospective disabled students on the same grounds as all other students.
