Course Overview

This course is new for the entry year 2023

Interior Architecture is the creative discipline that focuses on the re-use, adaption and spatial manipulation of existing buildings. Practitioners are always conscious of place, place responsiveness and community needs. Understanding a building's social and environmental impact is central to the practice of Interior Architecture.

With a firm focus on re-use and refurbishment, this studio-based Interior Architecture degree will prepare you to meet real-world, future-focused challenges in readiness for a successful career in this relevant field. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to assess the potential of existing buildings and plan intelligent and innovative solutions.

You will:

  • Experiment with creativity, examining its role in re-thinking the interior and developing a personal design philosophy

  • Explore the materiality of interior spaces through technical design, workshop practice and a material library

  • Consider the environmental ethics, alongside the social and psychological aspects, of design solutions

  • Learn to draw, model, simulate, test, communicate and pitch your design proposals

  • Develop project and design management skills as you collaborate with peers on live, industry-led projects or work with industry partners

  • Work in dedicated design studios with access to professional equipment, workshops and support from specialist staff

  • Have the option of a placement year in professional practice
