Our MSc Government, Policy and Politics examines the day-to-day practice and reality of government by analyzing post-war politics and public policy in the UK and around the world. You will develop your ability to analyze political debates and issues in a critical manner and you will be taught by academics with expertise in researching, writing about, and participating in politics. The program combines theoretical approaches with empirical knowledge and real-world case studies, and you will explore topics in political theory, political science, and sociology. You will be given the opportunity to debate and engage with the everyday practicalities of politics through class discussions and meetings with experienced practitioners. Graduates can pursue careers in the local and national government, the diplomatic service, policy work, the voluntary sector, research, or journalism. Possible professions include Civil Service fast streamer, government social research officer, or politicians assistant. This degree is also useful in becoming a public affairs consultant, Diplomatic Services operational officer, public relations officer, or newspaper journalist.
Our standard postgraduate entry requirement is a second-class honors degree (2:2 or above) from a UK university or an equivalent international qualification.
If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.
