Course Overview

We are a close-knit, friendly team and you can expect to build meaningful relationships with the teaching staff whilst studying in a highly nurturing environment. Our class sizes are small, and we are proud of our very high staff-to-student ratios, which ensure that you get the most out of your time with us. We understand that chemistry is a challenging subject and believe that every single student should have the opportunity to succeed.

At the University of Chester, we take placements very seriously. We want to give you all the experience you need to enter the career that you want. We give all of our Chemistry students placement opportunities at every level of study throughout the course, including an optional placement in the first year as well as assessed placements in the second and third years. These placements are in a diverse range of research and industrial areas. The teaching team is all highly passionate about training chemists that are ready for the world of work.

Our course is a combination of modern, practical chemistry and theory. You will study topics in materials chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and drug discovery, as well as energy and fuel cells. All of this will be underpinned by practical classes in our brand-new laboratories, where you can expect to use advanced instrumentation for chemical analysis, including infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry.

Scottish Highers - BBBB including Chemistry

International Baccalaureate:

26 points including 5 in HL Chemistry

Access requirements:

Access to HE Diploma (Chemistry at Level 3) to include 30 level 3 credits at Merit

OCR:

Can only consider in combination with A-level Chemistry

Extra Information / General Entry Requirements:

Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and Level General Studies will be recognized in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs.
