The MSc in Criminology offers a unique insight into the cutting-edge criminological theory and current real-world phenomena related to crime and punishment. The program is open to graduates of various social science disciplines and provides a multidisciplinary platform from which to engage with the complexity of contemporary criminology and to understand and critically assess the political, economic, social, and cultural forces that affect crime and its control. The program will appeal to you if you have a keen interest in crime and criminal behavior and wish to better understand the key issues facing criminal justice today. Not only will you gain advanced knowledge and understanding of contemporary criminological theory, but you will also have the opportunity to specialize by pursuing one of four pathways, and learn cutting-edge research methods to enable you to complete a substantial, original research project. Graduates can pursue a career in law enforcement or corrections, policy analysis and policymaking, in non-governmental organizations, international research institutions and think-tanks (e.g. UNODC), within various government departments and ministries, and in the media and criminal justice system more broadly.
A second-class honors degree (2:2) or above in the humanities, social sciences, or law.
If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, the requirement for this program is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 7.0, with not less than 6.5 in each of the sub-tests.
