Course Overview

If you already work in the IT sector, or you intend to pursue a career in IT or a research degree, our MSc Advanced Computing Technologies is designed to advance your knowledge of advanced computing technologies, data science, and data analytics. This specialized program will provide you with the skills to analyze problems in the evaluation and application of technologies, and in research into, and development of, new technologies. The program focuses on areas of expertise and research specialization within the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems and covers state-of-the-art techniques in, for example, the management and analysis of 'big data', software development of information systems in the cloud, mobile, and web-based architectures, and computational methods for intelligent information management and analysis. Graduates go on to careers in software engineering, information systems management, consultancy, and research. Possible professions include database administrator, systems analyst/developer, or multimedia programmer. This degree can also be useful in becoming a secondary school teacher, information systems manager, or technical author.

General Eligibility

A second-class honors degree (2:2) or above or MSc in computer science, with the syllabus containing a substantial amount of programming, preferably in an object-oriented language. Joint honors computing graduates may also be eligible, provided they have covered a substantial amount of programming, or have equivalent professional experience in the IT industry. Applications are reviewed on their individual merits and your professional qualifications and/or relevant work experience will be taken into consideration positively.

  • If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, the requirement for this program is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.
