Course Overview

Individual and personal tutorials also address issues of career management and planning. The course team has many connections with external networks, organizations, and employers (e.g., publishers, agents, writing organizations, festivals, etc.). This aspect of the course is closely connected with the Career Development Service, which offers relevant support in workshops, mock interviews, and more.

With its focus not only on writing skills but also on the practical aspects of working in the Creative Writing field, this degree helps you work towards a variety of related fields, from publishing and e-publishing, editing, and literary agency, to teaching the subject at school (with a PGCE qualification), or undertaking a Ph.D. For example, graduates in Creative Writing might be employed as authors, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, storyline, video game creators, journalists, TV producers, publishers or agents, teachers or lecturers, stand-up comedians, academic research, public relations, advertising and marketing, political study and speech-writing, arts management, content provider, tweet writer, web editor, blogger, franchise creator, branding consultant, literary event manager, or intellectual property adviser. Over the last few years, our students and graduates have published novels, non-fiction, poetry collections, reviews, and short stories and have won or been shortlisted for major awards.

General Eligibility

Normally a 2:1 degree in Creative Writing, English Language or Literature, or another relevant subject. We also consider applicants with significant writing experience.

Part Time Work Details

20 hours of work permit weekly for international students.

Language Requirement

  • IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If your first language is not English, you may need to prove your English ability. If you do not yet meet our requirements, our English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) offers a range of courses to help you to improve your English to the necessary standard.
