Course Overview

The Foundation degree in Electrical Power Engineering at Aston is a degree-level course designed specifically for the electricity industry, enabling you to gain the specialist knowledge required to progress your career while working and earning a wage. The Electrical Power Engineering FdEng course, delivered by Astons Professional Engineering Centre, is designed in collaboration with the major electricity companies, the Sector Skills Council, and partner Further Education (FE) colleges, including Inverness College (University of Highlands and Islands). The course has academic accreditation from the Institution of Engineers and Technology (IET), one of the worlds leading professional societies for engineers and technicians, so your qualification will be recognized globally as meeting the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC).

General Eligibility

A relevant National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering or related subject awarded at Merit or Distinction level. 2 A levels (preferably including Mathematics or Physics), with supporting GCSEs at grade c or above, including Science, Technology or Mathematics. Equivalent Scottish or overseas qualifications to those listed above. If over 21, on the basis of experience or qualification deemed equivalent to those above. Candidates with appropriate level 4 plus qualifications may be allowed direct year 2 entry.

  • IELTS Overall 6.5, Reading, Writing Listening, Speaking 6.0. Financial requirement You’ll need to show you have enough money to support yourself - unless you’ve been in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months on the date of your application. How much money you need depends on where you will be studying. You’ll need either: £1,334 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses outside London £1,023 per month (for up to 9 months) for courses inside London If you’re applying for the Doctorate Extension Scheme, and you’ve been in the UK for less than 12 months, you need to prove you have a total of £2,668 for courses in London, or a total of £2,046 for courses outside London. If you’re boarding at a residential independent school, you’ll need to pay boarding fees instead. The amount you need to pay will be on your CAS. London means the City of London and the 32 London boroughs.
