Developed for beginners, the course will enable you to design and create your own pieces of jewelry in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. You will be guided through the basic principles of jewelry making and introduced to the tools you will be using such as the piercing saw, hammers, pliers, and blowtorch for silver soldering. You will start with copper for practice before moving on to working with silver. Your first silver piece of jewelry will be a ring sized to fit you. After the introduction to these skills, the second half of the course provides the time to work on your own collection of jewelry, under the guidance of a tutor, Lesley H Phillips or Yvette Cannon, and accompanying technician, Imogen Hughes. Through an informative induction, you will also be provided with all the relevant health and safety information needed regarding good workshop practice.
This introductory course assumes students possess no previous knowledge and is suitable for beginners, or those with some previous experience who wish to improve their skills.
